NIGHT FLIGHT (TV series)Co-Producer & Director: STUART SAMUELS From 1983 1986, Stuart co-produced and directed Night Flight, one of America's first music video programs. From 1981 88, Night Flight was a wild and imaginative alternative to the predictable Top 40 format of MTV. Airing twice a week on the USA Network (unavailable in Canada), the late-night show was a daring mix of B-movies, rock videos, pop interviews, and offbeat shorts. Night Flight would mix a Who concert with a biography of guerilla comedian Lenny Bruce, an interview with author Jerzy Kosinski ranting against television, Neil Young movies, the Stones' Sympathy For The Devil documentary, Robin Williams singing Springsteen (as Elmer Fudd), the animated classic, Bambi Meets Godzilla and a wide range of rock videos, from Little Richard to Alice Cooper. TV Guide hailed Night Flight as "the most entertaining late night show on cable TV ... ." Readers of Cable TV magazine voted it their favourite program. Viewers and critics alike agreed Night Flight was an imaginative alternative to MTV. Night Flight fans can now rejoice: plans are afoot to officially release footage from the show on DVD, including live performances and interviews.
